One-time setup

Setup guide

A one-time setup, about ten minutes. Collect four things from Kotak, add our IP there, and you are ready to trade at zero brokerage. If you get stuck, a person from our team guides you. The first time is free.

Part 1 · On your Kotak Neo account

Everything here is done on Kotak's own site, with your own login.

    Log in to Kotak Neo on the web

    On Kotak

    Open kotakneo.com and log in to your account (the trading site is trade.kotakneo.com). No account yet? Open a free Kotak Neo demat account first, then come back here.

    Create your Trade API key

    On Kotak

    Go to More, then Trade API, and open the Default Application (create it if it is not there). Copy the Consumer Key shown on that page.

    Register TOTP

    On Kotak

    In the Trade API section, choose TOTP Registration. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, then enter the 6-digit code to confirm. From now on this app gives you a fresh code every 30 seconds; you need one each time you log in to trade.

    Copy your UCC

    On Kotak

    Open your profile and go to Account details. Copy the UCC (your client code). Also note the mobile number registered with Kotak, with the country code, for example +919876543210.

    Keep your MPIN to yourself

    On Kotak

    Your MPIN is the PIN you already use to open Kotak Neo. We could save it so you only type the TOTP each day, but we chose not to: it is the key to your Kotak account, so it stays with you. We never record it anywhere. You type it yourself each time you log in, and it is used for that one login only.

Part 2 · Connect it to TradeON

We give you a license and our server's IP address; you tell Kotak to trust that address.

    Get your license

    On TradeON

    Log in to TradeON and start your trial, or ask for a membership. Your license key appears in your account and is emailed to you. On this site it applies automatically; you only paste the key into the desktop app.

    Whitelist our IP on Kotak

    On Kotak

    Your account page shows the IP address of our server, with a Copy button. Back on Kotak, under Trade API, open the Default Application and paste that address into Primary IP (or Secondary IP if Primary is already used). Kotak only accepts orders from the addresses listed there.

    Connect and trade

    On TradeON

    On your account page, save the Consumer Key, mobile and UCC once. Then enter your MPIN first and the TOTP last (the code changes every 30 seconds), press Log in to Kotak, and open the trading dashboard. You are trading at zero brokerage.

What we keep, and what we never see

  • Stored, encrypted: your Trade API Consumer Key, registered mobile and UCC, and your Kotak session for the day. They are needed to send your orders.
  • Never stored: your MPIN and your TOTP codes. You type them at each login and they are passed to Kotak for that login only.
  • Never touched: your money and securities. Every order goes to your own Kotak Neo account, and only when you place it.
